Andy Capp was originally a single panel comic strip created by cartoonist Reg Smythe in 1957, eventually becoming a 4-panel strip. It still features today in the Daily Mirror newspaper and is licensed as the mascot of this range of potato chips.
Andy is married to long suffering wife and battleaxe Flo Capp and is a non-working working class bloke hailing from Hartlepool in the north east of England. His name is a pun on the local pronunciation of the word "handicap".
